New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Emerging Kho Kho talent Sachin Bhargo has received the esteemed Vikram Award - 2023 from the Madhya Pradesh Government, honoring his exceptional performance in the sport both nationally and internationally.

Bhargo, who proudly represented India at the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup 2025, was one of 11 athletes to receive the Vikram Award from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during the Shikhar Khel Alankaran Samaroh held at Ravindra Bhavan, Bhopal, on Tuesday.

Established on May 15, 1990, the Vikram Award is the highest sporting honor in Madhya Pradesh. It includes a citation and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh, awarded to athletes showcasing outstanding performances in senior-level national and international competitions.

A resident of Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, the 25-year-old Sachin Bhargo is currently working with the Income Tax Department in Mumbai through the Sports Quota, a position he secured in 2024 due to his accomplishments in Kho Kho. He attributes his success to his coach Praveen Sangte, the leadership of the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) led by Shri Sudhanshu Mittal and Dr. MS Tyagi, as well as the unwavering support of his family.

“The contributions of KKFI President Shri Sudhanshu Mittal ji and Shri MS Tyagi ji towards the promotion of Kho Kho are commendable. Their efforts have elevated Kho Kho to the same level as other sports. Now, Kho Kho athletes enjoy both recognition and employment prospects,” stated Bhargo.

In a congratulatory note, KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal remarked, “Kho Kho is transforming the lives of athletes, offering recognitions, awards, and government jobs. The respect that Kho Kho players are now receiving is attracting numerous young individuals to pursue careers in Kho Kho.”

To date, over 3,000 Kho Kho players have gained employment in various central and state government departments, public sector undertakings, and paramilitary forces, highlighting the sport's transformative impact on athletes’ lives.

KKFI has also created several awards, including the Rani Laxmi Bai Award and Eklavya Award for seniors; the Bharat Award and Ilha Award for sub-juniors; and the Abhimanyu Award and Janaki Award for juniors.

During the Shikhar Khel Alankaran Samaroh for 2023, the Madhya Pradesh Government honored 11 Vikram awardees, 11 Eklavya awardees, 3 Vishwamitra awardees, and 1 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, 82 athletes who excelled at the 38th National Games (34 gold, 25 silver, and 23 bronze medals) were also recognized.
