Windhoek, Dec 7 (NationPress) Former head coach of India, Gary Kirsten, has taken on the role of consultant for the Namibian men's cricket team in preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026, set to be held in India and Sri Lanka during February and March.
Kirsten will collaborate closely with head coach Craig Williams, enhancing the team's technical strategies and holistic development.

Namibia has successfully qualified for the last three T20 World Cups in 2021, 2022, and 2024, and they are also contenders for the upcoming tournament. Furthermore, they are one of the three host nations for the 2027 50-over World Cup, alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe.
As a player, Kirsten had a remarkable international career with South Africa from 1993 to 2004, participating in 101 Test matches and 185 One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He accumulated 7,289 Test runs, featuring a top score of 275, recognized as one of the most iconic innings in South African cricket. In ODIs, he secured 6,798 runs.
After his retirement, Kirsten continued to be actively involved in cricket, undertaking coaching and mentorship roles at various levels. His coaching career achieved international acclaim when he became India's head coach in 2007, leading the team to attain the number one Test ranking and their historic ICC Cricket World Cup victory in 2011.
