Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 21 (NationPress) The three-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have announced the appointment of former Rajasthan wicketkeeper-batter Dishant Yagnik as their new fielding coach in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
As stated by KKR, “Yagnik is poised to contribute a significant amount of expertise and a keen focus on fielding excellence to KKR, as the franchise gears up with a revamped support staff, which includes Abhishek Nayar as Head Coach, DJ Bravo as Mentor, Shane Watson as Assistant Coach, Tim Southee as Bowling Coach, and Andre Russell as Power Coach.”
Born in Banswara, Rajasthan, the 43-year-old Yagnik played in 25 IPL matches from 2011 to 2014 for the Rajasthan Royals and participated in a total of 50 first-class, 41 List A, and 56 T20 matches during his 13-year domestic career. After retiring, he transitioned to a coaching role, having served as a fielding coach in various leagues. Most recently, he was with the Rajasthan Royals from 2018 to 2025.
Throughout his extensive tenure with the Jaipur-based franchise, Yagnik played a crucial role in collaborating with both international players and developing Indian talent. Currently, he is working with the Jammu & Kashmir senior men’s team as their fielding coach for the ongoing domestic season.
During the previous year’s IPL auction in Abu Dhabi, KKR was quite active, acquiring 13 players, including Australia’s seam-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green for a staggering Rs 25.2 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. However, due to a new IPL regulation, his actual earnings will be capped at Rs 18 crore, with the excess going to the BCCI’s player welfare fund. KKR also secured Sri Lanka’s death overs specialist Matheesha Pathirana for Rs 18 crore.
Other acquisitions by KKR included players such as Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert, Akash Deep, Tejasvi Singh Dahiya, Kartik Tyagi, Prashant Solanki, Rahul Tripathi, Sarthak Ranjan, and Daksh Kamra.
