Kolkata, April 7 (NationPress) The assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, Ottis Gibson, expressed strong faith in his team’s bowling capabilities as they prepare for their match against Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
During the pre-match press conference, Gibson emphasized the importance of their bowling strategy that proved effective in their recent win against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He stated, "Our focus is to secure wickets with the new ball, which we executed well in the last match. We aim to maintain this approach moving forward."
The coaching staff at KKR is particularly impressed with the performance of local fast bowler Vaibhav Arora, who has emerged as one of the leading wicket-takers for the team this season.
"He has performed exceptionally for us. Both Harshit (Rana) and he have shown great promise," Gibson remarked. "In our last match, we even chose to bench Spencer Johnson, an international player, to give these two a chance because we have confidence in their abilities."
Gibson mentioned that Arora has been collaborating closely with team mentor Dwayne Bravo to enhance his tactical approach. "Vaibhav is diligently working with DJ Bravo on strategies, planning how to approach his overs, and identifying wicket-taking opportunities, and it’s showing positive results."
When discussing the team’s strengths, Gibson was clear: "Bowling is our strength." He also conveyed confidence in their spin attack, noting the contributions of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. "Even if we don’t get wickets with the new ball, we still have those two to depend on," he said, labeling them as 'arguably the best spinners in the league.'
Gibson confirmed that the team practiced in the afternoon prior to the game to adapt to the anticipated heat. "Most of these players have experience in the IPL, playing both day and night matches, so it shouldn’t pose a significant challenge for us," he noted.
With KKR aiming to capitalize on their recent momentum, Gibson’s assurance indicates the team is thoroughly prepared for the challenge from Lucknow Super Giants in what is expected to be a thrilling matchup at Eden Gardens.
