Finch Analyzes KKR's Middle-Order Woes Against LSG
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) Aaron Finch, the former captain of Australia, has expressed concerns regarding the middle order of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during their match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) held at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
Even after setting a solid score of 181/4, Finch noted that several KKR batsmen seemed to struggle with their form and confidence throughout the middle overs.
"There were a few players who appeared to be desperately seeking their form," Finch mentioned in an interview with ESPNcricinfo while evaluating the innings.
At the halfway point, KKR was in a strong position at 98/1, courtesy of a robust partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi. However, the team's momentum waned following their dismissals, and the middle order failed to sustain the pace.
Finch highlighted that Cameron Green seemed uncertain at the crease early in his innings.
"When Cameron Green came in, he looked quite unsure about his approach. Should he go for a big shot, or should he play cautiously? This indecision can lead to a loss of intent, resulting in numerous dot balls, which in turn creates pressure," he elaborated.
He also critiqued vice-captain Rinku Singh, who appeared out of sync and managed only four runs from seven balls.
"Rinku seemed completely out of touch. It looked like he wasn't focusing on the ball as he should have been. He was ready to play a shot, but all his weight was shifting away from the ball, which was quite unusual given his usual performance," Finch remarked.
According to Finch, the body language of KKR's middle order indicated a significant lack of confidence at a pivotal moment in the innings, which ultimately prevented the team from surpassing the 200-run mark.
"The middle order displayed signs of lacking confidence," he pointed out.
While KKR did manage to recover in the final overs, achieving a score of 181/4, it was insufficient as LSG successfully chased down the target on the final ball, aided by a remarkable 54-run performance from young talent Mukul Choudhary.
