Kohli eclipsed the previous record held by former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who amassed 701 runs over 10 matches from 2013 to 2017. Sourav Ganguly, another former Indian captain, stands as the third-highest run-scorer for India in the tournament's history with 665 runs from 13 matches played between 1998 and 2004.
The 36-year-old reached this remarkable milestone while contributing to India's chase of 265 runs. Kohli achieved this in his 17th match in the Champions Trophy.
