Jaipur, Dec 26 (NationPress) Rohit Sharma, the former captain of India, faced an unfortunate golden duck in the opening over of Mumbai's innings against Uttarakhand during the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group C match held here on Friday.
He was dismissed at deep fine leg by right-arm medium pacer Akash Madhwal Bora on the last ball of the first over, with Jagmohan Nagarkoti completing the catch after initially dropping it.
The 38-year-old batsman made a remarkable return to domestic cricket, scoring a sensational century off 62 balls against Sikkim in his first Vijay Hazare Trophy match in seven years for Mumbai on Wednesday. He later scored 155 runs off 98 balls while leading Mumbai to a successful chase.
This century marked Rohit’s 37th in List A cricket, adding to his impressive tally of 33 international centuries for India.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli demonstrated his outstanding form for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by scoring a fast-paced 77 against Gujarat in the Elite Group D match in Bengaluru.
Kohli's innings included 14 boundaries. He formed a 72-run partnership for the second wicket with Arpit Rana and added 24 runs with Nitish Rana, followed by a brief 10-run partnership with Rishabh Pant before falling to Vishal Jayswal in the 22nd over.
In a previous match against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence on Wednesday, Kohli achieved the remarkable milestone of 16,000 List A runs with his first run in the chase of 299.
His achievement positions him as only the second Indian player, following the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, to reach this landmark in List A cricket. Despite his illustrious career, Kohli is still pursuing Tendulkar’s record of 60 centuries in List A cricket, currently holding 57 centuries.
Kohli’s last appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was during the 2010-11 season, where he captained Delhi. He participated in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 2013-14 but had not been part of the Vijay Hazare for almost a decade prior to this comeback.
