New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy was marked by record-setting centuries, but it was Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who truly captivated audiences in the latter part of the day with their remarkable hundreds upon returning to this prestigious one-day domestic tournament.

Rohit dazzled for Mumbai with a stunning century off just 62 balls against Sikkim, while Kohli soon followed suit, scoring an impressive ton off 83 balls against Andhra Pradesh, dominating their respective opponents with ease.

Rohit's comeback to domestic cricket was nothing short of sensational, as he marked his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after seven years with a century on Wednesday.

While chasing Sikkim's target of 236 runs in Jaipur, Rohit began with confidence, unleashing a flurry of boundaries that made the chase appear straightforward. This century, which brought him closer to 14,000 runs in the 50-over format, was his 37th in List A cricket, complementing his tally of 33 international centuries for India.

Following Rohit’s remarkable 155 for Mumbai, Kohli made his presence felt upon his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a long absence of 15 years, scoring a classic century during a challenging 299-run chase against Andhra at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Kohli skillfully led the chase with his signature style, achieving a glittering hundred. This was his 58th List A century and his third century in just four innings since the recent series against South Africa.

With his first run of the innings, Kohli proudly joined an elite group as the ninth player ever to achieve 16,000 List A runs, with over 14,000 of those runs accumulated while representing India since his debut in 2008.

During the match, Kohli also made history by reaching 16,000 List A runs, becoming only the second Indian, after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, to attain this milestone in List A cricket.

The 37-year-old is now among the ninth players worldwide to surpass this remarkable achievement, joining the ranks of cricketing icons such as Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Sir Vivian Richards, and others.
