Dubai, March 3 (NationPress) Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu asserts that the upcoming showdown between Virat Kohli, the iconic Indian batter, and Adam Zampa, the Australian leg-spinner, will be a pivotal clash to watch in the crucial Champions Trophy semifinal at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
Kohli has fallen victim to Zampa five times in ODIs since 2017, making this matchup particularly intriguing given the slower pitch conditions in Dubai. This year, Kohli has been dismissed five times by leg-spinners, managing only 37 runs against them with a strike rate of 48.68.
“It’s going to be Adam Zampa versus Virat Kohli (a key battle in the semi-final). Kohli has faced challenges against leg-spinners recently, but his current form in this tournament will aid him against Australia,” Rayudu expressed during an interview with JioHotstar.
In his 300th ODI match against New Zealand on Sunday, Kohli began with two fortunate boundaries, but his innings ended prematurely when he was caught spectacularly by Glenn Phillips after hitting a hard cut off Henry, leaving both Kohli and the audience stunned as he departed for just 11 runs.
Rayudu reflected that luck was not on Kohli's side, noting that he became the seventh Indian and the 22nd player overall to achieve the milestone of 300 ODIs. “The intent was evident, and expectations were elevated. His determination for a significant score was visible. On big occasions, Virat Kohli typically rises to the challenge and delivers those memorable moments.”
“Sadly, Glenn Phillips made an extraordinary catch to dismiss him. It was simply one of those instances where fate did not favor him. However, I hope he channels this drive into a substantial performance in the semi-finals. We all want to witness him at his best, and he has our unwavering support. Phillips just ruined the celebration,” he concluded.
