Mumbai, Dec 29 (NationPress) India's Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy secured bronze medals in their respective categories at the 2025 FIDE World Rapid & Women’s World Rapid Championships held in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday. Magnus Carlsen and Alexandra Goryachkina emerged victorious in the men's and women's divisions.

Carlsen achieved a remarkable score of 10.5 points, marking his sixth title in World Rapid Chess. He was followed closely by Vladislav Artemiev, Erigaisi, Hans Moke Niemann, and Leinier Domingues Perez, all ending with 9.5 points after 13 rounds.

Erigaisi's crucial victory over Aleksandr Shimanov on the fourth board propelled him into a tie for second place with a total of 9.5 points. Artemiev secured second place with a tiebreak score of 105.5 against Erigaisi's 98, while Niemann and Dominguez followed with scores of 97.5 and 95.5, finishing third and fourth, respectively.

In the final round, Carlsen drew against Anish Giri (8.5), while Artemiev also drew with Wesley So from the United States.

In the women's category, Humpy tied for the top position alongside Goryachkina and Zhu Jiner, each scoring 8.5 points over 11 rounds. However, in the tiebreak, Zhu was awarded first place, with Goryachkina taking second and Humpy finishing third. Goryachkina triumphed over Zhu in the tiebreak to claim the gold.

Humpy's bronze adds to her accolades, having previously won gold medals in 2019 and 2024. In the final round, Humpy was held to a draw by compatriot B Savita Shri, who concluded the tournament with eight points, tying for fourth with fellow Indian R. Vaishali and Ekaterina Atalik of Turkey, who also drew against the eventual champion Goryachkina.
