Los Angeles, March 5 (NationPress) The three-time Olympic gold medallist LeBron James has made history by becoming the first player in the NBA to accumulate 50,000 career points.

The 40-year-old star of the Los Angeles Lakers reached this remarkable milestone by sinking a three-pointer during an NBA regular season match against the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Tuesday.

Needing just one point before the game, James hit a three-pointer from the left wing, assisted by Luka Doncic, with 8:34 left in the first quarter. He finished the game with 34 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, leading the Lakers to a decisive 136-115 victory over the Pelicans.

His total now comprises 41,871 regular-season points and 8,162 postseason points. Additionally, he is the only player in NBA history to compete as both a teenager and beyond the age of 40.

Just last month, James became the first player in NBA history to achieve multiple 40-point games at age 40 or older. The legendary Michael Jordan is the only other player to have scored over 40 points at 40 years old.

In December of the previous year, James surpassed six-time NBA MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most minutes played in league history during a win against the Sacramento Kings.

James had already claimed the title of the league's top scorer after breaking Abdul-Jabbar's regular-season scoring record on February 7, 2023, and he also surpassed Michael Jordan’s playoff scoring record on May 25, 2017.

He holds additional NBA records for career field-goal attempts and turnovers, while ranking fourth in assists and sixth in steals.
