Bengaluru, Feb 28 (NationPress) Australia and Gujarat Giants batter Pheobe Litchfield showered accolades on young pacer Kashvee Gautam, who delivered an impressive 1-17 spell against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, contributing to her team's six-wicket triumph in the WPL 2025 match on Thursday.

Deandra Dottin and Tanuja Kanwar each took two wickets to limit RCB to 125/7 in their 20 overs after Gujarat won the toss and chose to bowl first.

"Our bowlers have been exceptional, and they were the ones who secured the win today. Taking three wickets during the powerplay puts the opposition under significant pressure. We've experienced that ourselves in the last two matches, so we understand the strain it causes. The way Kashvee and Deandra bowled at the start was outstanding. I genuinely believe Kashvee is poised to become a significant talent in the future. As an Aussie, I must admit - I'm a bit intimidated! It’s fantastic to have her on our team in the WPL," Litchfield expressed on Amul Cricket Live on JioHotstar.

In pursuit of 126 runs, Gujarat's captain Ashleigh Gardner scored 58 runs off 31 balls, including three sixes and six fours, while Litchfield remained not out with 30 runs off 21 balls, featuring three fours and a six, helping the team seal the victory with 21 balls to spare.

Litchfield praised Gardner, stating, "She’s incredible. Batting alongside her feels like a comforting piece of home. She is calm and composed, and her ability to turn games around with her explosive batting is invaluable. We needed a big over, and she delivered against the leg-spinner, allowing us to maintain a manageable run rate. From there, it was all about completing the chase. Her skills in captaincy, effective bowling, and explosive batting are tremendous assets for our team. We're thrilled to have her with us."

On her personal aspirations for the WPL, Litchfield shared her desire to evolve her skills throughout the tournament. "I’m leveraging this platform to learn a great deal. It’s among the top tournaments globally, featuring elite players, and presents a significant challenge. Now that I have my opportunity in the middle order, I aim to make the most of it," she stated.

"Laura Wolvaardt is still pushing hard with some brilliant shots in practice, making for a highly competitive environment. But I’m grateful for this chance. With a World Cup approaching in a few months, I'm absorbing all the insights and tricks I can gather in India while also relishing the experience - because playing cricket here is simply the best! Tonight was a blast," Litchfield added.
