Seoul, Aug 2 (NationPress) Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, has confirmed that a proposal for striker Alexander Isak was indeed submitted, although any potential agreement appears to be quite complex.
Reports indicate that Liverpool extended an offer around £110 million, but Newcastle United swiftly declined, as they are reportedly seeking close to £150 million.
“From my perspective, I am somewhat detached from everything occurring back home. I became aware of the bid yesterday, but it was rejected before I was informed. There are individuals in England managing this situation,” Howe stated during a press conference.
“I truly don’t know what the next steps will be, but we continue to support Alex in every possible way. My hope is to see him back in a Newcastle shirt,” he added.
Currently, Isak is training at the facilities of Real Sociedad, his former club. Howe acknowledged that the situation is ‘far from ideal’.
“I am aware of his whereabouts through the media, which makes it challenging for me to provide any specifics. The situation is quite complicated, and that’s all I can say,” he explained.
Isak was instrumental in Newcastle’s successful season, scoring 27 goals in 42 matches across all competitions, aiding the team in securing UEFA Champions League football for the upcoming season and ending their trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle is currently on their pre-season tour in Asia and will face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. This match will mark the final appearance of Spurs legend Son Heung-Min at the club after announcing his departure following a decade there. He will captain the team in his last match at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Howe expressed his sentiment on bidding farewell to the South Korean in front of his home fans.
“He is undeniably one of the legends of the Premier League. We’ve faced him numerous times, especially during my early years at Bournemouth, and I always found him remarkable—his speed, dribbling, and goal-scoring ambition. He has consistently been one of the most formidable players we've encountered each season,” Howe stated.
