New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially secured South African all-rounder George Linde to take the place of Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for the remainder of IPL 2026, as announced by the tournament officials on Friday.

According to an official statement from IPL media, "The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have brought in Protea all-rounder George Linde to fill the gap left by Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been sidelined from the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to injury."

Hasaranga, who was signed by LSG for Rs 2 crore during last year's player auction in Abu Dhabi, will miss the ongoing tournament due to a hamstring injury he incurred during Sri Lanka’s first match in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“We are getting ready for his absence and actively searching for suitable replacements, which will be announced within the next 24 to 48 hours,” stated Tom Moody, LSG’s Director of Cricket, following their victory at Eden Gardens on Thursday, where they won by three wickets on the last ball.

Linde, a skilled left-handed batting all-rounder who bowls slow left-arm orthodox, is set to make his IPL debut. He has played for South Africa in three Tests, four ODIs, and 37 T20Is, amassing 403 runs and securing 35 wickets in T20 formats.

His last T20 appearance was during the bilateral series against New Zealand last month, where he managed to take just one wicket in four innings. At 34 years old, Linde was part of the Proteas squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup and has previously participated in franchise leagues including SA20, the Hundred, Major League Cricket, and the PSL.

Overall, he has claimed 218 wickets in 250 T20 matches with an economy rate of 7.42. He joins the squad led by Rishabh Pant at a base price of Rs 1 crore. LSG will square off against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground, BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, this Sunday afternoon.
