Southampton, June 30 (NationPress) Luke Williams has been appointed as the head coach of Southern Brave for the 2025 season of the Women’s Hundred, taking over from Charlotte Edwards, who has recently assumed the role of head coach for the England Women’s team.
Williams comes to this position with a robust coaching background, having served as an assistant to Edwards at Southern Brave since the tournament began. Under their guidance, the team achieved runner-up status in 2021 and 2022, before securing their first title in 2023. His coaching achievements also include leading the Adelaide Strikers to their inaugural Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) championship in 2022, followed by another victory in 2023. Additionally, he was at the helm when Royal Challengers Bengaluru captured their first title, encompassing both the men's and women's divisions.
After Edwards was appointed as the England coach, Williams contributed as a consultant during the recent home series against the West Indies. At Southern Brave, he will again collaborate with South Africa's captain, Laura Wolvaardt, who plays under his guidance at the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL.
"It’s an honor to lead Southern Brave this year, succeeding Charlotte Edwards. Having been part of this team for several years, we have a fantastic group of players and staff, and we’ve made solid acquisitions in the draft earlier this year. I’m hopeful we can reach Finals Day and lift the trophy this summer," Williams expressed in a statement.
In other news, former England opener Marcus Trescothick has been appointed as the batting coach for Southern Brave in the Men’s Hundred 2025, taking over from Jimmy Adams, who will coach Hampshire during the One Day Cup in August.
Trescothick, currently the batting coach for the England men’s team, also served as the interim white-ball coach last July. This will mark his inaugural coaching role in The Hundred.
