Gwalior, May 21 (NationPress) The much-anticipated Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) is poised to kick off its new season on June 12, with matches taking place at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium located in Shankarpur. This year, the league has been moved from Indore to Gwalior due to the approaching monsoon in Indore and the delayed conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Notably, Gwalior was the venue for the inaugural season of the MPL last year, making it a well-known location for both players and organizers. Initially, the league was scheduled to start on May 27 in Indore, coinciding with the IPL's earlier end date on May 25.
The event is being organized by the Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA) under the auspices of the MP Cricket Association. This season, the men's competition has expanded from five teams to seven, now including teams from the Bundelkhand and Chambal regions.
A jersey unveiling ceremony is slated to occur in Gwalior on May 27. Additionally, this season will introduce a Women’s Cricket League, which will run in conjunction with the men's matches. The women's league will consist of three teams, one being from the capital city, Bhopal.
Chairman Mahanaaryaman Scindia expressed, "Gwalior holds a significant place in the hearts of our players and fans, and we are excited to return here. With the addition of two new men’s teams and the launch of our inaugural Women’s League, we are pleased to broaden the horizons for talent across Madhya Pradesh."
Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) CEO Ravi Patankar added, "We are delighted to announce that all logistical arrangements for the venue shift have been efficiently completed. With the new start date confirmed, we look forward to providing an exhilarating and smooth tournament for players and fans alike."
