Who is Pramod Madushan? Replacement for Malinga in Sri Lanka's T20 WC Squad
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Colombo, Feb 6 (NationPress) The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has officially confirmed the addition of Pramod Madushan to the Sri Lanka team as a substitute for Eshan Malinga.
According to an announcement from the ICC, Madushan, a medium-fast bowler, has participated in 13 ODIs and eight T20Is. His selection comes after Malinga was sidelined due to a shoulder injury he suffered during the bilateral T20I series against England on February 1.
Before a player can be formally integrated into the squad, the Event Technical Committee (ETC) must approve the replacement.
At just 24 years old, Madushan has already made his mark, taking 12 wickets in eight T20Is at an impressive average of 8.63 runs per over. He previously faced England in 2021 but was not part of the final squad for the 2020 ICC World Cup, which was announced on February 2, 2023. Interestingly, his last international T20I appearance was on April 28, 2023.
Sri Lanka, bolstered by Madushan's pace along with teammates Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera, is set to take on Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 8.
The Sri Lanka squad includes: Dasun Shanaka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Janith Perera, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Pavan Rathnayake, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana, Pramod Madushan.
