Mandhana Approaches Top Rankings in ODI and T20I

Dubai, Dec 24 (NationPress) Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana is making significant strides toward the top of the T20I and ODI batting rankings, currently positioned at second place in both formats after her outstanding performances against the West Indies.

The latest rankings update from the ICC on Tuesday reveals that Mandhana's ODI rating stands at 739, just behind South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt, who has a rating of 773. In T20I, her rating of 753 is closely trailed by Australia's Beth Mooney at 757.

At 28 years old, Mandhana ascended to the No. 2 position following her scores of 62 off 41 and 77 off 47 in the two T20Is during the week, marking a remarkable streak of half-centuries against Hayley Matthews' squad in consecutive matches. In the first ODI held in Vadodara, she recorded 91 off 102, bringing her tally to five consecutive innings with scores exceeding 50 in international competitions.

Conversely, Matthews' performances, where she scored 85 not out off 47 and 22 off 17 in the two T20Is, propelled her two spots up to joint-third in the rankings, now tied with Australia's Tahlia McGrath at a rating of 748.

Additionally, Indian players Radha Yadav (up three positions to 16th) and Shreyanka Patil (up one position to 20th) have also seen advancements in the T20I bowling rankings.

In the ODI rankings, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur improved her standing by three spots to joint-tenth (rating of 631) after scoring 34 in Vadodara, sharing her position with England's Tammy Beaumont. Meanwhile, Australia's Alyssa Healy climbed two places to eighth with ratings of 640 after her performances of 39 and 34 against New Zealand.

Australia's all-rounder Annabel Sutherland has also made significant progress in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings due to her exceptional contributions in the ICC Women’s Championship series against New Zealand.

At just 23 years old, Sutherland has achieved career-best rankings across all three categories after being named Player of the Match in both the second and third ODIs, with Australia winning both matches following the abandonment of the first due to weather conditions. Her scores of 105 not out and 42 in these matches boosted her up by 11 spots to 18th in the batting rankings, while her bowling figures of 3 for 39 in the third ODI elevated her three places to 17th in the bowling rankings. She has also climbed to seventh from ninth in the all-rounders’ list after being recognized as the Player of the Series.

Within the bowling rankings, India's new-ball bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has entered the top 20 for the first time following her impressive performance of five for 29. Australian pacer Kim Garth moved up four positions to 13th after taking three wickets across two matches, while leg spinners Amelia Kerr of New Zealand (up one position to 11th) and Alana King of Australia (up two positions to 12th) are other notable gainers.
