New Delhi, July 19 (NationPress) With 65 percent of India's population being under the age of 35, the issue of substance abuse represents one of the most serious challenges facing the nation’s youth, jeopardizing their future and hindering national advancement. In response to this pressing concern, Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya will spearhead the special edition of ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ during the nationwide ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ event, set to take place on July 20 at the Banaras Hindu University campus in Varanasi.
The 32nd edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative will be hosted at 6000 locations nationwide, in collaboration with various educational institutions including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), DAV College Management Committee, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, and Bal Bharati Public School.
Mandaviya has issued an enthusiastic appeal to 1.5 million schools across the country to embrace cycling as a means to promote health and support a drug-free Viksit Bharat. Launched by the Union Sports Minister in December 2024, the ‘FIT India Sundays on Cycle’ has evolved into a widespread movement, drawing participation from over 50,000 individuals each week.
In New Delhi, the event will commence at 7 am IST from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, featuring thousands of children from schools in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“The youth are the architects of our future. A healthy youth is essential for national prosperity. As envisioned by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the transformation of India into a Viksit Bharat by 2047 hinges on the health and fitness of our youth.
“Today, the issues of addiction and substance abuse stand as significant obstacles to the development of our youth. I urge children of all ages and every school across the subcontinent to champion the cause of a Nasha-Mukt Viksit Bharat and ride towards a healthier, obesity-free India,” Mandaviya stated.
