New Delhi, Sep 22 (NationPress) South Africa's T20I captain Aiden Markram expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenges ahead as he joins Durban’s Super Giants for the fourth season of SA20, after a triumphant stint with Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Markram, who guided the Sunrisers to consecutive championships and a second-place finish last year, was acquired by the Super Giants for R14 million, even as his former team opted to use their Right to Match (RTM) clause.

"It's exciting. Something new is always thrilling. However, it’s bittersweet to part ways with the Sunrisers. I had a fantastic three years there, surrounded by great individuals and an excellent coach, Adie Birrell."

"While I’m sad to leave, I previously spent time with Lucknow Super Giants during the IPL, and now heading to Durban feels invigorating. New challenges, unfamiliar conditions, and new teammates offer a fresh perspective. It’s always exciting to explore these new horizons," said Markram in a tournament announcement on Monday.

The Super Giants faced a challenging third season, securing only two victories out of ten matches, finishing at the bottom of the table. Nevertheless, Markram holds a positive outlook for the team, inspired by a blend of international talents and promising players.

The squad also includes Jos Buttler, England’s T20 World Cup-winning captain, alongside Heinrich Klaasen, thrilling fast bowlers Kwena Maphaka and Gerald Coetzee, along with the enigmatic spin of West Indies legend Sunil Narine and Afghan sensation Noor Ahmad.

"I reviewed the squad, and it’s packed with world-class talent. Knowing these players are on my team naturally ignites excitement. Klaasie has been on fire for the last 18 months, if not longer," Markram remarked.

"The auction yielded some excellent signings, combining seasoned players with youthful, dynamic talents and true X-Factor individuals. I’m eager to connect with everyone and foster a vibrant, enjoyable environment, which embodies what SA20 represents. I believe everyone will cherish their time in Durban."

Durban’s Super Giants will kick off their SA20 season four journey against the defending champions MI Cape Town at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on December 26.
