New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Karung Onkholer, better known as Onler, the husband of Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom, has categorically refuted her claims that she was defrauded of crores of rupees and lost land purchased with her earnings.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Onler labeled the allegations as baseless and asserted that Mary Kom has been involved in extramarital affairs.

According to Onler, the marital troubles began more than a decade ago. He disclosed that Mary Kom had her first affair in 2013 with a junior boxer, which sparked serious conflicts between their families, but a reconciliation was eventually made. He further accused her of being in a relationship with someone connected to the Mary Kom Boxing Academy since 2017.

"I will share what she mentioned at Lok Adalat. Firstly, in 2013, she was having an affair with a junior boxer. Our families had a confrontation, and after that, we reached an understanding. Since 2017, she has been involved with an individual from the Mary Kom Boxing Academy. I possess their WhatsApp messages as evidence. I have proof, including the name of the person she was involved with. I chose to remain silent," Onler disclosed to IANS.

Onler expressed that while he does not mind Mary Kom moving forward in her life, he strongly opposes being publicly accused.

“She wanted to be independent and start a new relationship. We are divorced. I don’t mind if she chooses another husband. But she must not accuse me. If she blames me, let her provide the evidence; bring the documents. I know her whereabouts and who she is with,” he added.

He challenged the allegations of financial misconduct and emphasized that his current living situation contradicts claims that he has large amounts of money. “She mentioned the property and requested my name to be removed. She claimed I stole 5 crores. Check my bank statement,” he stated.

"After 18 years of marriage, we were together. And now, this? She’s out of her mind. I’ve lived with her for 18 years. What do I have? I live in a rented house in Delhi. She is a celebrity. Whatever she says, some will believe it and some won’t,” Onler reiterated his challenge for documented proof.

He explained his rationale for removing his wedding ring, saying, “I took off my wedding ring because I don’t trust her... She is going to Lok Adalat claiming I took a loan and stole property. If the property is in my name, then she should have those documents, right? Let her present those documents, and only then we can discuss.”

"We received a customary divorce. We have yet to appear in court. I don’t want to engage in a court battle because I love my kids. Why should I be speaking to national media about how my husband is stealing money? What have I done to deserve this?”

"Bring evidence for all the accusations, and prove if I have crores. Why am I being blamed for theft? She referred to the loan worth crores I took during an election. What is the proof? Money is being spent on elections. I borrowed money from my friends.”

Onler stated he has supported Mary Kom through various stages of her career and personal life but feels deeply betrayed by her claims.

“I can forgive her, but I will never forget how she treated me. I feel used. Who established her academy? Who registered it? Now someone else has taken on the chairperson role, whom I prefer not to name. What she has done has deeply affected me... We have lived in Delhi since 2013. My sons are in boarding school. Yes, she earns and pays their fees, but who has raised them?”

He also expressed concern for his children and addressed allegations about his personal habits. “I want to see my sons who are in a hostel. She claims they are her kids, but they are my blood too. This is about the relationship between a husband and wife. Nobody is perfect. She said I drink alcohol. So does she. She has had vodka and rum, and she also consumes 'gutka'. But I never revealed these things to the media, which blamed me for drinking. Yes, I drink at parties.”

Finally, he alleged that despite sustaining injuries before the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Mary Kom traveled to Mumbai and continued a relationship, asserting that he has proof.

“She got injured during the 2022 Commonwealth Games but still traveled to Mumbai. I have evidence that includes the name of the individual she was involved with. I remained silent.”

Onler and Mary Kom were married in 2005 and have four children. The couple finalized their divorce in 2023.
