New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) World championship medalist boxer Gaurav Bidhuri has urged for calm and adherence to legal protocols amidst the public controversy involving boxing icon Mary Kom and her spouse. He emphasized that truth cannot merely be determined through media declarations and should be validated in a court of law.

"Initial rumors suggested that Mary Didi had abandoned her husband, Mr. Onler, who has been her steadfast supporter throughout her career, a narrative depicted in the film. This left us bewildered about who was in the right and who was to blame," remarked Gaurav Bidhuri to IANS.

"However, after viewing Mary Kom Didi's interview on Lok Adalat, clarity emerged. We were inspired to see our champion confront her husband like Rani Laxmi Bai, exemplifying strength for women everywhere by addressing wrongs and standing up for herself.

"Mary Didi is an inspiration for the youth, not only in India but globally. These allegations could tarnish her reputation and set a negative precedent for others. Whenever a strong woman is mentioned, names like Rani Laxmi Bai and Mary Kom come to mind. Her achievements are unparalleled, and no one can diminish that. Therefore, she remains our idol, and we hope for a swift resolution with justice served promptly.

Previously, Mary Kom’s husband, Karung Onkholer (Onler), denied allegations from the Olympic bronze medallist that she was defrauded of significant sums and lost property purchased with her funds.

Onler claimed that marital issues began over ten years ago, alleging that Mary Kom had an affair in 2013 with a junior boxer, which created serious family disputes before reaching an agreement. He further asserted that since 2017, the five-time World Champion has been involved with someone linked to the Mary Kom Boxing Academy.

"This morning, I came across an IANS report where Mr. Onler defended himself, expressing his anguish and claiming she had multiple affairs (with evidence) while denying her accusations," he added.

However, Bidhuri maintains that there is insufficient basis to favor either Mary Kom or her husband. He acknowledged that Mary Kom is a remarkable athlete and a prominent figure in sports, but insisted that until this matter is addressed legally, a fair judgment cannot be made.

"As a husband and father, I resonate with Mr. Onler's pain. Thus, I cannot be biased and unconditionally support our boxing legend, Mary Kom Didi.

"Both parties should resolve this in family court rather than publicizing it on national media. They each claim to possess evidence: Mr. Onler has WhatsApp messages (according to him), while Mary Didi has financial documents and bank transactions (as per her claims).

"At this point, we cannot ascertain who is correct; it’s merely verbal exchanges from both sides. Such claims are insignificant until proven in court. On humanitarian grounds, I cannot side with anyone," he concluded.

Onler and Mary Kom were married in 2005 and have four children. They finalized their divorce in 2023.
