Cairns, Aug 14 (NationPress) Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced that he is currently perfecting his bowling techniques during the powerplay, with the goal of taking on new ball bowling responsibilities for Australia at the upcoming T20 World Cup next year, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka.
At 36 years old, Maxwell has bowled two overs within the powerplay during both T20Is against South Africa in Darwin and even managed to dismiss captain Aiden Markram in the match on Tuesday. Maxwell is quite familiar with bowling in powerplay situations, notably after his impressive wicket of Rohit Sharma during the 2023 ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
"I believe that in the subcontinent, you might extract a bit more as a spinner early in the game, particularly with the new ball and its hard seam, which can grip well on those dry pitches. So it's definitely an aspect we will consider moving forward," he stated.
Maxwell expressed, "I'm often as surprised as anyone when I take a wicket. I relish the opportunity to claim wickets. It's always a surprise each time I manage to get someone out. My role in the powerplay is clear, and I am focused on performing that role to the best of my ability," he shared with reporters in Cairns on Thursday.

"I've been somewhat of a 'shuffler' in the batting order, moving up and down. Currently, I'm filling various roles. During the West Indies series, I batted higher to counter Akeal Hosein, and now I'm batting lower to help manage the end of the innings," he explained.
"I aim to play whatever role is necessary for the team and remain as adaptable as possible," he added.
The final match of the T20I series, which is currently tied at 1-1, is scheduled for Saturday in Cairns. This game will also feature the first-ever men's T20I at Cazaly’s Stadium, where a sold-out crowd of 10,000 is anticipated.
