Mumbai, March 26 (NationPress) Ajinkya Naik, the President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing cricket activities in the city, despite the Wankhede Stadium missing out on hosting a Test match for the India–Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2027.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has designated Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi, and Ahmedabad as the venues for the five Tests of this prestigious series in 2027, leaving Mumbai still waiting to host an India-Australia Test since 2004.
“Every match holds significance to us—be it a Ranji Trophy match, an international fixture, an IPL game, or a local club match. We're thrilled that cricket is being played in Mumbai, and we will continue to strive for the game's improvement,” Naik stated.
“We adhere to all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by our parent organization and ensure that we implement their directives,” Naik mentioned to reporters during a recognition event for the MCA at Khar Gymkhana on Thursday.
Mumbai is scheduled to host the third ODI between India and Zimbabwe on January 9, 2027. When asked about the absence of a marquee Test, Naik remarked that such decisions are beyond his control.
“I can only comment on MCA matters. Any decisions made by the Apex Council are within our purview, but for anything related to the BCCI, inquiries should be directed to their office,” he added.
Reflecting on the achievements of Mumbai's teams across various formats and genders, Naik highlighted the collective effort that earned Mumbai the best association award for the third consecutive year at the recent BCCI awards.
