Edinburgh, April 25 (NationPress) Chris McBride has been reinstated in Scotland's squad for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League (CWCL) 2 series, which will unfold in the Netherlands from May 4-16.

Scotland is set to compete in two ODIs against the Netherlands, followed by three 50-over matches against the UAE, with Amstelveen and Utrecht serving as the venues. This marks McBride's return to the squad for the first time since 2023, while Finlay McCreath earns his first full international call-up after showcasing his talent on the current tour of Zimbabwe, including a remarkable century against Zimbabwe 'A'.

“I am thrilled for Finlay McCreath to receive this chance; he has dedicated considerable effort to his game for an extended period, and his statistics in domestic cricket have been outstanding.”

“It’s also fantastic to witness Chris McBride back in the squad. He faced a tough year being away from international play, yet he has delivered some exceptional domestic performances in 2024. Additionally, he has dedicated time over the winter in South Africa to refine his skills,” stated Steve Snell, Head of Performance at Cricket Scotland.

Cricket Scotland noted that several players were considered for the squad but were unavailable due to various commitments, such as work, personal matters, or county obligations in England.

“This year is critically important for us as we aim for qualification for the 2027 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Consistent and successful performances in the Cricket World Cup League 2 are key to achieving that goal.”

“The squad is currently in Zimbabwe, which serves as excellent preparation for such a significant summer. It has also allowed us to offer opportunities to emerging players to showcase their abilities in 50-over cricket this year.”

“Naturally, in international teams, especially those that are successful, there are players eager for selection. The quality of players both within and outside the squad is impressive, fostering healthy competition for places, which will only bolster the team as we progress,” Snell added.
