Edinburgh (Scotland), Dec 24 (NationPress) Kirstie Gordon, the captain of Nottinghamshire's Blaze team in the English women's domestic circuit, has chosen to return to international cricket with Scotland, marking her comeback over six years after her last stint with England.

The 28-year-old left-arm spinner, originally from Huntly, embarked on her international journey with Scotland when she was just 14 years old. However, in 2018, she opted to pursue a full-time career within the English domestic framework.

During her tenure with England, Gordon was selected for the 2018 T20 World Cup and participated in a one-off Test match against Australia in 2019.

"Returning to Scotland has been on my mind for the last couple of years, especially with head coach Craig Wallace encouraging me. I've really connected with him and his vision for the team. Plus, the chance to reunite with my close friends Kathryn and Sarah Bryce made it feel like the right moment to come home," Gordon stated in a Cricket Scotland release.

"I made my Scotland debut at a young age and had incredible experiences, including attending the first global qualifiers in Thailand in 2015. My ambition to elevate my cricket career led me to Loughborough for university, where I seized opportunities to play at a higher level. Eventually, I made the difficult decision to step back from Scotland to play for Loughborough Lightning.

"Though I wasn't entirely aware of the prospects, I got selected for England at the World Cup in the West Indies. Competing at the highest level was always a goal of mine, and I cherished those opportunities," she added.

From 2012 to 2017, Gordon played 60 international matches for Scotland before switching allegiance to England. Now, having recovered from a back injury, she aims to be ready for the 2026 domestic season and is available for future Scotland selections.

"It’s fantastic to have Kirstie back in the fold for Scotland. She’s an exceptional player and person, and I’m eager to work with her. Her decision to return highlights the strength of our squad, as someone of her caliber wants to compete for a spot. We’ve built a strong culture on and off the field, and it’s wonderful she wants to be part of our journey," head coach Craig Wallace commented.

Scotland is preparing for the T20 World Cup qualifiers set to take place in Nepal in January 2026.

"The standard of cricket in Scotland has significantly improved, and competition for places is fierce. I believe it will be a thrilling environment to be part of. I’m also excited to mentor the emerging spinners, ensuring I contribute to the growth of Scottish cricket before I eventually step away," Gordon shared.

"Like everyone, I hope the team succeeds in Nepal and qualifies for the World Cup in the summer, but I view this decision as a long-term commitment to Cricket Scotland, supporting younger players as I go along. I’m eager to get involved in any capacity," Gordon concluded.
