MI Head Coach Charlotte Edwards on G. Kamalini: 'A Talent Like Her is Essential for Our Team'

Mumbai, Dec 16 (NationPress) The head coach of Mumbai Indians, Charlotte Edwards, and Mentor & Bowling Coach Jhulan Goswami have conveyed their contentment with the team's latest signings in the WPL Auctions, underscoring the careful strategy and effort devoted to acquiring players that align with the franchise's objectives.
Reflecting on their progress during the auctions held on Sunday, Charlotte Edwards expressed, “We are absolutely thrilled. These were the players we aimed to secure, and achieving this is quite remarkable for us. A considerable amount of planning has gone into this auction, so we are very, very pleased.”
The Mumbai Indians Women achieved great success at the WPL 2025 auction in Bengaluru, assembling a vibrant team filled with skill and potential.
What particularly delighted Charlotte and Jhulan was the signing of G. Kamalini – the 16-year-old sensation. Acquiring this young talent was a standout highlight of the auction for the Mumbai Indians.
Charlotte Edwards praised the young player Kamalini, stating, “When you witness a talent like that, you want her in your colours, and we have demonstrated today how much we value her. I hope she will be part of MI for many years. I am eager to meet her and integrate her into the team.”
Edwards highlighted Kamalini’s significance to the team, adding, “We required backup for Yastika at the top of the order and a left-handed option for the middle order. Kamalini is the ideal fit. We anticipated competition for her, so we strategically planned to secure her.”
Jhulan emphasized Kamalini’s focused mindset and robust approach. “Her mentality and performance during the trials were impressive. Joining the MI family will provide her with the opportunity to display her talent and develop as a player. It’s exhilarating to think we could nurture another young cricketer for Team India,” she remarked.
The Mumbai Indians were also pleased to welcome Nadine de Klerk, the versatile all-rounder.
The team has brought this South African all-rounder into their roster. Charlotte Edwards shared her excitement, stating, “Nadine has demonstrated over the past year how thrilling she is. At just 24, she has considerable experience. Most importantly, I admire her character and her style of play. She’s a fantastic addition to our squad and can perform multiple roles for us.”
A significant highlight for the Mumbai Indians coaching staff has been their contribution to the talent pool of the Indian team. Edwards reflected, “Observing players like Saika and Sajana, who have advanced to represent India, has been one of the highlights of the WPL. That’s what coaching and being part of this team is all about. You desire players to realize their potential and play for their country, and we are incredibly proud of the small role we play in that.”
The Mumbai Indians have also signed exciting local talents like Sanskriti Gupta and Akshita Maheshwari.
Jhulan Goswami discussed the domestic talents acquired during the auction.
“Sanskriti Gupta is an outstanding all-rounder who can finish games at No. 6 or 7. She’s also a skilled bowler with both new and old balls, making her a versatile addition to our team,” she noted.
Regarding Akshita Maheshwari, Jhulan added, “Maheshwari again – possesses excellent swing and her accuracy is impeccable. Another young talent who can swing the ball. When you see a young girl capable of swinging the ball upfront in women’s cricket, you know there’s something special about her. This is an incredible platform for her growth.”
With a remarkable blend of international experience and budding local talent, the Mumbai Indians’ Women's team is set for another exhilarating WPL 2025 season.
