WPL: Tambe and Marsh Join the Coaching Team of Gujarat Giants as Mithali and Nooshin Depart

New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) As the WPL 2025 auctions draw near, the Gujarat Giants, owned by Adani Sportsline, have unveiled that Pravin Tambe and Daniel Marsh will be joining their coaching team as the bowling and batting coaches, respectively.

Throughout the first two seasons of the WPL, the Giants struggled, securing only four points each year and finishing at the bottom of the standings. Additionally, the franchise announced that former Indian captain Mithali Raj has stepped down from her role as mentor and advisor, a position she held for the initial two seasons.

In November, Mithali was named the mentor for Women’s Cricket Operations by the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) on a three-year contract. The franchise expressed, “Mithali Raj, with her recent commitment to the Andhra Cricket Association, transitions to a new chapter in her journey. Gujarat Giants deeply appreciates her contributions, leadership, and vision, and wishes her success in her future endeavors.”

Tambe, who made history as the oldest debutant in the IPL at 41, has previously been part of the coaching teams for franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants. He takes over from Nooshin Al Khadeer, who is now the head coach for the India Under-19 women's team.

“Joining Gujarat Giants as the Bowling Coach marks an exciting new chapter in my cricketing journey. I am keen to collaborate with this talented group of players to enhance their skills and help them thrive,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Marsh, who steps in as the batting coach, brings a vast amount of experience, having previously served as the head coach of the Tasmania Men’s team from 2013 to 2017, and as the assistant coach for the Australia women’s team in 2022.

“I am thrilled to be joining Gujarat Giants. I look forward to fostering a fearless approach to our batting, aiming to make our team one of the most formidable batting units in the WPL,” said Marsh, who played for Tasmania, South Australia, and Leicestershire, and is the son of Rod Marsh.

The team has retained Michael Klinger, who was appointed as the head coach for WPL 2024. Earlier this year, Klinger was also named head coach for the Manchester Originals women’s team in The Hundred.

“We established a strong foundation last season, and I am excited to build upon that with the talented players we have retained. Our aim is to cultivate a winning mindset and push the limits of what we can accomplish as a team.

“It is incredibly rewarding to witness so many of our Gujarat Giants players representing India since last WPL season. This invaluable experience at high levels will undoubtedly strengthen our squad for the upcoming season,” he added.

Gujarat Giants have retained players including Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Bharti Fulmali, Dayalan Hemalatha, Harleen Deol, Kashvee Gautam, Laura Wolvaardt, Mannat Kashyap, Meghna Singh, Phoebe Litchfield, Priya Mishra, Sayali Satghare, Shabnam Shakil, and Tanuja Kanwer.

Conversely, they have released Kathryn Bryce, Lauren Cheatle, Lea Tahuhu, Sneh Rana, Tarannum Pathan, Trisha Poojitha, and Veda Krishnamurthy. The WPL 2025 auction is scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru, with the Giants having INR 4.4 crore available and needing to fill four slots, including two for overseas players.
