New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) Former Indian left-arm bowler Irfan Pathan stated that the Mumbai Indians (MI) have a distinct advantage over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing discussion regarding the top Indian Premier League (IPL) team, highlighting MI's significant contributions in producing match-winners for the national team.

"Choosing between CSK and MI as the ultimate IPL team is always a matter of perspective. CSK began their title-winning journey in 2010, securing consecutive championships in 2010 and 2011, being the first to achieve this feat. Conversely, MI commenced their winning streak in 2013, consistently securing titles every alternate year, including back-to-back wins in 2019 and 2020.

"What stands out about MI is their remarkable input to Indian cricket. The number of impactful players they have nurtured for the national squad is incredibly impressive. How does one accomplish this? Primarily by elevating the franchise's status and secondly, by achieving favorable outcomes with the available talent. Last season, MI boasted a formidable lineup that could have easily clinched the trophy, but circumstances prevented them from doing so.

"Unlike CSK, MI has four Indian captains. In terms of team assembly and contributing to a broader cause, I believe MI deserves the title of the greatest IPL team. While CSK will always argue their case, having also won five titles, it's a valid discussion. However, MI's contribution of numerous exceptional cricketers and emerging talents gives them the edge," Pathan expressed during his interview on JioStar.

He further elaborated on how the upcoming IPL 2026 season would serve as a vital learning experience for teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The left-handed batsman made headlines last year by becoming the fastest Indian to score a century in the IPL, achieving this milestone in just 35 balls, and was retained by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of IPL 2026.

Sooryavanshi recently excelled as the Player of the Tournament and Player of the Final in the 2026 Men’s U19 World Cup, which India won. "This IPL season is going to be a pivotal learning opportunity for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He has experience from last year’s tournament, has played domestic cricket, and is actively participating in all formats of the game.

"His involvement in the Under-19 World Cup and the Ranji Trophy with Bihar has showcased his ability to score runs consistently. In both white-ball and red-ball formats, he is gaining significant attention. Bowlers are taking note of him as well. Given his extensive cricketing exposure since his IPL debut last year, other players are analyzing his gameplay and identifying his weaknesses," he added.

Pathan concluded by mentioning the intrigue surrounding whether Sooryavanshi would enhance his skills when bowlers target his vulnerabilities. "He must work on improving his game and addressing his weaknesses. He has effortlessly scored centuries across all formats. Continuous success, not only in the IPL but also in domestic and Under-19 cricket, boosts confidence immensely.

"This season, bowlers will be strategizing against him, and Vaibhav will be eager to demonstrate his abilities. Achieving another hundred in the IPL would solidify his standing. If he can maintain consistent scoring this season, only then can we conclude that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has indeed advanced his game."
