New Delhi, March 14 (NationPress) Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan opines that the new wave of talent at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is presented with a remarkable chance to enhance their skills by learning from the seasoned veteran, MS Dhoni.

As the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) draws near, Dhoni’s ongoing association with the CSK team remains a key subject of discussion. Pathan highlighted that despite the franchise's evident shift towards a younger lineup, Dhoni’s role in the locker room could be instrumental in mentoring the upcoming leaders.

Emphasizing Dhoni's rigorous preparation and fitness ahead of the season, Pathan noted that Dhoni seems poised to make significant contributions both on and off the pitch.

“With the IPL approaching, we’re once again witnessing Mahendra Singh Dhoni in action, which indicates he is fully prepared and appears quite fit,” he shared with JioStar.

CSK, regarded as one of the most successful teams in IPL history, has begun to rejuvenate their squad while still valuing experienced leadership. With players like Ruturaj Gaikwad stepping into leadership roles and promising talents such as Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube expected to take center stage, the franchise seems to be striking a balance between continuity and evolution.

“We have seen him shoulder responsibilities for many years now, but I believe it’s time for the baton to be handed over to the likes of Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is also a young captain. CSK's philosophy is shifting. It will be vital for the youngsters to absorb MS Dhoni's insights, as he guides them forward,” Pathan remarked.

“This team looks incredibly promising on paper. In terms of big-hitting capability and aggressive intent, I am eager to witness the boldness of this young CSK squad,” he added.

Turning his attention to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Pathan discussed the challenges facing the franchise, particularly regarding the availability of their fast bowlers as the season approaches. The former pacer suggested that squad balance and injury issues could affect selection choices, especially concerning overseas players and the wicketkeeper position.

“Selecting between Seifert and Finn Allen will present a delightful dilemma, but KKR’s foremost concern post-auction will be the fitness of their fast bowlers. They will be anxious about Pathirana's injury. Harshit Rana is also a significant absence. However, considering the schedule, KKR might find some solace as they will play three out of four matches at home,” he said.

“This allows for improved planning and acclimatization to the conditions at Eden Gardens, benefiting both players and coaching staff in their preparations. Regarding Seifert and Finn Allen, if the overseas pacers are unavailable, Abhishek Nayar and his team might handle the wicketkeeper position for now,” Pathan concluded.

KKR’s home ground, Eden Gardens, has traditionally granted them a tactical edge, and Pathan believes the schedule may aid the franchise in effectively managing its squad concerns during the tournament's initial phases.
