New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) Former Indian left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan is of the opinion that while the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have gained momentum leading into their crucial IPL 2026 showdown with the Mumbai Indians (MI), the latter possesses a slight advantage in terms of player comparisons.

Both teams recently faced heavy defeats against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. “RCB is currently on the move. They secured victories in their initial home matches, but once they stepped away from home, they suffered a loss in Guwahati against the Rajasthan Royals,” he noted.

“This raises some questions within the team. I believe the outcome of the match may hinge on which team executes better during the final overs, and the toss will play a significant role as well. RCB is in good form, yet in a head-to-head player assessment, I think MI has a slight edge,” Pathan remarked on JioHotstar, as the tournament enters its 'Rivalry Week'.

In reference to the recent match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which PBKS won by six wickets, Pathan pointed out Shashank Singh’s remarkable bowling spell as the key moment that stopped SRH from scoring heavily.

“That was a pivotal moment. If not for the two wickets that Shashank took in the same over, the Sunrisers would have easily reached 250 runs. They started strong with Abhishek and Travis Head, losing their first wicket at 120,” he reflected.

Pathan commended the strategic insight displayed by the part-time bowler and the trust placed in him by captain Shreyas Iyer. “Shashank, who rarely bowls, requested the ball himself. He approached Shreyas, who showed confidence in him.

“He bowled with a strategy, kept his line wide to Abhishek, refrained from full deliveries, and varied his pace. That was the game right there, the difference between 220 and 250, which could have complicated things for Punjab. They are currently in good form,” he added.
