Mumbai, Sep 28 (NationPress) Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has been named the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the Annual General Meeting held at the board's headquarters on Sunday.
The position of BCCI president became vacant following Roger Binny's resignation in August 2025, with Rajeev Shukla serving as interim president. With this election, Manhas has become only the third former cricketer to hold the presidency, following Sourav Ganguly and Binny.
“What a historic moment to celebrate! Mithun Manhas is officially the new President of the 'Board of Control for Cricket in India' #BCCI. This is a remarkable Sunday for the district of Doda, one of the most isolated regions of Jammu & Kashmir, which also happens to be my home district,” shared Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Science and Technology Minister, on X.
Manhas, nominated by the JKCA, was the top candidate for the BCCI president’s role following an informal meeting of key Indian cricket decision-makers last Saturday.
The 45-year-old cricketer played domestically for Delhi before moving to Jammu and Kashmir, where he also took on coaching responsibilities. Renowned for his calm demeanor and deep understanding of grassroots cricket, he has remained actively involved in cricket development post-retirement.
His domestic career includes 147 first-class matches, where he scored 9,714 runs at an average of 45.82, including 27 centuries and 49 fifties. His best season was in 2007-08 when Delhi clinched the Ranji Trophy, scoring 921 runs at an average of 57.56.
In List A cricket, Manhas has accumulated 4,126 runs in 130 matches at an average of 45.84, including 5 centuries and 26 half-centuries. He has also taken 75 wickets, with 40 in first-class cricket.
Manhas has played for three franchises in the IPL – Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Pune Warriors India (defunct), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the inaugural season until 2014. In 55 matches, he scored 514 runs at an average of 22.34 and a strike rate of 109.36.
Reports indicate that Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia were re-elected as vice-president and secretary, respectively, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has taken over from Rohan Gauns Desai as joint secretary. Raghuram Bhat has been elected as treasurer.
