National Shooting Championship: Ganemat Sekhon Claims Women's Skeet Gold

New Delhi/Bhopal, Dec 24 (NationPress) Ganemat Sekhon and Bhavtegh Singh Gill emerged as exceptional talents, securing premier accolades in their respective competitions during the 67th National Shooting Championship held at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range. Punjab showcased its prowess in skeet shooting, while Tamil Nadu excelled in the 10m air rifle mixed team contest in Bhopal.

Ganemat Sekhon from Punjab achieved her second consecutive national title in the women's skeet category, exhibiting remarkable accuracy.

In the individual women’s final, Sekhon scored 50 out of 60 targets, decisively outpacing her fellow state competitor Asees Chhina, who recorded 46 hits to secure the silver medal.

Olympian Raiza Dhillon captured the bronze in a highly competitive event.

This triumph marked Sekhon's second gold medal of the championship, having previously won the women’s team event alongside teammates Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Jasmeen Kaur.

Emerging star Bhavtegh Singh Gill, fresh off his victory at the World University Championships, clinched his inaugural senior national title in men’s skeet with an impressive tally of 54 hits in the final.

Fatehbir Singh Shergill from Air India secured the silver with 51 hits, while Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan of Uttar Pradesh finished third with 43 hits from the initial 50 targets.

Gill further enhanced his medal count by securing two additional golds in the men’s and junior men’s team events earlier in the championship, culminating in a stellar performance.

In the junior men’s skeet final, Ishan Singh Libra from Haryana triumphed over Gill in a thrilling shoot-off, winning gold with a 6-5 score after both shooters were tied at 52 hits.

The junior women’s skeet competition saw Raiza Dhillon claim another gold for Haryana, hitting 53 targets and outperforming Vanshika Tiwari from Madhya Pradesh, who achieved 47 hits. Yashasvi Rathore from Rajasthan took home the bronze medal.

At the M.P. State Academy Shooting Range in Bhopal, Tamil Nadu’s Karthik Sabari Raj R and Narmada Nithin dominated the 10m air rifle mixed team event, defeating a formidable Railway pairing of Olympian Arjun Babuta and ISSF World Cup Finals medalist Sonam Uttam Maskar with a convincing 16-6 victory in the final.

The Tamil Nadu duo had ranked second in the qualifications with a score of 632, just 0.4 points behind the Railway team but flipped the outcome in the final to clinch gold. In the bronze match, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Gautami Bhanot from Madhya Pradesh secured third place.

In the junior mixed air rifle category, Yash Vardhan and Devanshi Katara from Rajasthan triumphed over Karnataka’s Tilottama Sen and Abishek Sekhar with a score of 16-8 in the final. Maharashtra garnered the bronze medal.

In the youth category, West Bengal’s Abhinav Shaw and Sandrata Roy clinched gold, narrowly defeating Andhra Pradesh’s Taniyu Sirangi and Vijendla Bhanu Praneeth with a score of 16-14. Madhya Pradesh secured bronze after Gautami Bhanot and Satyarth Patel outperformed Haryana’s Jain and Ameerah with a 17-11 victory in the bronze match.
