Newcastle upon Tyne, Aug 30 (NationPress) Newcastle United has finalized a record-breaking agreement to acquire forward Nick Woltemade from the Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart, as announced by the Premier League club on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Germany international marks the Magpies' fifth signing this summer after securing a long-term contract at St. James' Park.
Nick started his journey with Werder Bremen, where he advanced through the youth ranks to become their youngest-ever Bundesliga player at just 17 years old in 2020.
Last summer, he transferred to Stuttgart and quickly made a name for himself as one of the most thrilling attackers in the German league.
He concluded the last season with an impressive tally of 17 goals in 33 matches across all competitions and maintained his scoring streak at the recent Under-21 European Championships, where he earned the top goalscorer accolade.
This towering 6ft 6in striker, who has received two senior international caps, will join the Germany squad next week for their World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Northern Ireland.
"I'm truly delighted to be part of this incredible club. From our initial discussions, it was clear that the club genuinely wanted me and had significant plans for my future," Nick expressed, stating he will don the number 27 jersey for Newcastle United.
"Leaving Germany is a major step in my life, but the warm welcome I've received makes it feel like family already. Speaking with the head coach gives me confidence that this is the ideal environment for me to reach my peak performance.
"I've watched matches at the stadium on television – it looks fantastic, and I know the atmosphere is electrifying. I'm eager to start playing and scoring goals here."
Newcastle United's head coach Eddie Howe remarked, "We’re thrilled to have secured Nick’s signing so promptly. He aligns perfectly with what we've been seeking to enhance our attacking arsenal.
"He excels in various aspects – showcasing exceptional technical skills while proving himself as a genuine threat in one of Europe’s premier leagues – yet he’s still at an age where he can continue to develop and flourish here.
"Nick embodies a great character, and we’re genuinely excited to integrate him into our squad."
