Kuala Lumpur, Jan 26 (NationPress) After the reigning champions India secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh, captain Niki Prasad expressed that the team’s goal is to consistently assert their dominance on the field.
During the match at Bayuemas Oval on Sunday, left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma delivered an outstanding performance, claiming three wickets and limiting Bangladesh to just 64/8 in their 20 overs. Meanwhile, G Trisha showcased her batting prowess by scoring an impressive 40 off 31 balls, leading India to a comfortable eight-wicket win in under eight overs.
“We’re extremely pleased with our performance and the exhibition we put on. It’s crucial for every team we encounter to have bowlers who can secure early breakthroughs. We’ve been performing exceptionally well, and I’m confident this will continue,” Prasad remarked.
“We’ve dedicated a lot of effort in our pre-match preparations and our fielding has been commendable. When we step onto the field, our aim is to dominate. We strive to give our best and keep improving continuously,” Niki stated in an ICC release after India confirmed their semi-final advancement.
With her three wickets, Vaishnavi's total for the tournament has now reached nine, making her one of the top wicket-takers. She was honored with the Player of the Match title for the second time in this tournament, but she quickly acknowledged her teammates for their contributions to the victory over Bangladesh.
“I am at a loss for words. All credit goes to the opening bowlers for making it easier for the spinners. The pitch didn’t offer much turn today, so I focused on attacking the stumps,” she mentioned. This win marks India’s third consecutive victory against Bangladesh, following their two wins in the recent U19 Women’s Asia Cup, where Trisha was the highest scorer each time.
India will aim for a flawless record as they prepare for their second Super Six match against Scotland at the same venue on Tuesday.
