Christopher Nkunku has returned to RB Leipzig on a season-long loan from AC Milan, with the Bundesliga club securing an option to make the transfer permanent. The deal, confirmed on 26 August, reunites the French attacker with the club where he built his reputation as one of Europe's most dynamic forwards.

Nkunku spent four years at Leipzig, amassing 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 competitive appearances. During that spell, he was instrumental in the club's back-to-back DFB-Pokal (German Cup) triumphs in 2022 and 2023, cementing his status as one of the most productive attackers in the Bundesliga.

'When the possibility of moving to RB Leipzig came up, I really wanted to take this opportunity,' he said. Nkunku also spoke of a bond that never broke during his time away. 'My connection to RB Leipzig is simply special,' he added. 'Even after my transfer, I always followed closely what was happening at the club and I am ready to write another chapter at RBL.'

Leipzig's sporting managing director Marcel Schafer welcomed the return with evident enthusiasm. 'We are very happy that Christo is back with us. He has already shown in Leipzig the exceptional quality he possesses and that he can decide games,' Schafer said. Schafer also highlighted that Nkunku turned down interest from other clubs to make the reunion happen. 'We were particularly pleased by how clearly Christo expressed his wish to play for RB Leipzig again. Despite the interest of other European top clubs, he absolutely wanted to return.
