Leipzig, March 30 (NationPress) RB Leipzig has dismissed head coach Marco Rose following a defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. Alongside him, his coaching staff, including Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, and Frank Geideck, as well as Frank Aehlig, the head of first team football, have also departed the club, as stated by the Bundesliga team on Sunday.
After spending two and a half years at the helm, Rose leaves the club. He assumed the head coach position in September 2022 during a challenging period for the team and successfully guided them back to winning form, overseeing a total of 125 matches.
"Marco Rose has been relieved of his duties as RB Leipzig head coach with immediate effect. His coaching staff of Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, and Frank Geideck have also departed, along with Frank Aehlig (head of first team football)," the Bundesliga club announced.
During Rose's tenure, RBL achieved qualification for the UEFA Champions League on two occasions, secured the second DFB-Pokal title in the club’s history, and celebrated their first victory in the Supercup.
“We believed in our collaboration with Marco and his team for a long time and attempted everything to reverse the situation together. Given the development and ongoing lack of results, we are convinced that new energy is needed for the remainder of the season to meet our objectives,” stated Marcel Schaefer, sporting director.
"We appreciate Marco and his coaching team's contributions over the last two and a half years, the successes we achieved together, and their dedication to the club," he added.
The club will soon announce an interim head coach.
The two-time champions, Leipzig, will face Stuttgart in the German Cup semifinals on Wednesday.
