New Delhi, Sep 9 (NationPress) Ange Postecoglou is on the verge of becoming the new head coach for Nottingham Forest following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo on Tuesday.

According to a report from The Athletic, Postecoglou is expected to take charge and will be present in the technical area for their match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on September 13.

Postecoglou joined Tottenham Hotspur from Celtic in the summer of 2023 and ended a 17-year trophy drought for the North London club by leading them to victory in the UEFA Europa League in Bilbao. Unfortunately, this achievement was overshadowed by a disappointing Premier League campaign, where the team finished 17th with only 11 wins, five draws, and 22 losses during the 2024-25 season.

The decision to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo was made by club owner Evangelos Marinakis, who felt that the relationship with the Portuguese coach had deteriorated beyond repair.

Santo's future had been uncertain for a fortnight after he publicly acknowledged the strained relationship with Marinakis.

He had joined Nottingham Forest on a two-and-a-half-year contract in December 2023 following the exit of Steve Cooper.

Last season, Santo led Forest to a remarkable seventh-place finish in the Premier League, their best position since 1994-95, which secured European qualification for the first time in 30 years. His success was recognized with a new three-year contract signed in June.

Marinakis has recently praised Postecoglou, who has Greek roots and previously managed Panachaiki in Greece's lower leagues.

While presenting an award to Postecoglou in Greece last July, Marinakis commented, "What I want to say about Ange is that he has spoken about Greece many times, he is proud to be Greek, and in the great success he had with Tottenham by winning the Europa League, he spoke about Greece," as reported by Neos Kosmos.

Point of View

It’s critical to recognize the shifting dynamics at Nottingham Forest. The appointment of Ange Postecoglou could signify a turning point for the club. Given his previous successes and connections with the Greek community, this move not only addresses immediate coaching needs but also the aspirations of the club moving forward.
