Abu Dhabi, Sep 9 (NationPress) Afghanistan has won the toss and decided to bat first against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup opener at Zayed Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Afghanistan's captain, Rashid Khan, expressed that they would prefer to set a target, noting the pitch appears favorable for batting.
“We would like to bat first. It looks like a good wicket to put runs on the board; a decent total will aid our bowlers. In T20 format, winning the toss is not everything, but we aim to create the best opportunity to secure wickets in the middle overs. That’s behind us now; our focus is solely on today’s match and how to secure a victory. We have made one change - Gulbadin is back,” he stated during the toss.
On the other hand, Hong Kong's captain, Yasim Murtaza, is eager to see how his players will perform on the grand stage after qualifying through the preliminaries.
“We aimed to bowl first. I’m pleased to bowl. We have worked diligently to reach this point and played commendable cricket in the qualifiers. As a captain, I look forward to seeing how Kalhan Challu will handle the pressure of the big stage,” he remarked.
