New Delhi, May 17 (NationPress) The Governing Board of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has made the significant decision to incorporate mixed team events in Pistol (10M, 25M), Rifle (10M, 50M 3P), and Shotgun (Trap & Skeet) categories for the Shooting League of India, scheduled to take place from November 20 to December 2, 2025, in accordance with NRAI guidelines.
The recommendations from the Technical Committee regarding the shooting disciplines for this league received the Governing Board's approval during their meeting on Saturday, where they discussed and finalized various elements of the inaugural edition of the Shooting League of India (SLI).
The members reviewed the timelines and format for the league, which will commence with an opening ceremony on November 20, followed by the league stage from November 21 to 26, where eight teams will be divided into two pools of four. The top two teams from each pool will progress to the knockout stages.
In a bid to ensure participation from elite Indian and international shooters, the NRAI President, Kalikesh Singh Deo, mentioned that there is already substantial interest in the SLI from the global shooting community.
Players will be categorized into four tiers: Elite Champions, World Elite, National Champions, and Junior & Youth Championships, ensuring a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talents.
The Governing Board also confirmed the logo for the Shooting League of India, which will be unveiled at an event in New Delhi on June 4, 2025. Discussions regarding league awards and prize money allocation were also conducted, with announcements expected in the future.
Topics such as governance structure, sports discipline, league formats, player recruitment, agency appointments, and the SLI brand were all addressed during the meeting.
This meeting was pivotal in moving towards a professionally managed and commercially viable shooting league in India.
The board ratified the establishment of a robust governance structure aligned with NRAI's vision, endorsing a transparent framework that facilitates private investment while maintaining regulatory compliance.
The SLI is anticipated to be a major milestone for NRAI in the coming year, fostering greater nationwide interest in shooting and discovering more talent across the country.
“By integrating elite sports with league-style excitement, the SLI aims to elevate the status of shooting as a sport and inspire future talent. There is unanimous recognition that this league is breaking new ground for the sport,” stated NRAI President Kalikesh Singh Deo.
“This is the first league of its kind envisioned within the international shooting community. A franchise-based model will enable some of the world's best shooters to collaborate on the same team, promoting rapid growth among young talents in India and globally,” he added.
