Mumbai, April 8 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Devdutt Padikkal attributed his pre-season dedication to his performance of 37 runs off 22 balls against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

RCB triumphed in the match by 12 runs, marking their first victory at Wankhede in a decade. Batting first, Virat Kohli scored 67 runs while captain Rajat Patidar contributed a rapid 64 runs off just 32 balls, featuring four sixes and five fours, leading RCB to a total of 221/5 in 20 overs.

Padikkal's innings included three sixes and two fours, achieving a strike rate of 168.18. "As I entered this season, I recognized the necessity for hard work. I identified areas needing improvement from last year. I had a productive couple of months before the IPL commenced, and I believe all that effort is reflecting now," he mentioned in the post-match interview.

Padikkal also shared a significant 91-run partnership with Kohli for the second wicket. Reflecting on this collaboration, he expressed, "Batting alongside Virat is a delight. His consistency over the years sets a benchmark for young players in the IPL.

"He makes it appear effortless, yet it's genuinely challenging to consistently score over 400 or 500 runs each year. As younger players, we aim to learn from his experience," Padikkal added.

While Padikkal didn't delve much into RCB's jubilation after their victory over Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium following six attempts, he approached the win with a pragmatic viewpoint.

"Honestly, every match holds significance for us. The opponent or location does not change our approach. We maintained this mindset against CSK in Chennai, KKR in Kolkata, and now MI in Mumbai," Padikkal stated.

"It’s crucial for us to focus on each game individually and strive for victory in every match since you never know how momentum can shift in this tournament. I genuinely believe we went out there with the intention to win, and we accomplished that," he concluded.
