Mumbai, March 4 (NationPress) Following India's triumph over Australia in the semifinal of the Champions Trophy (CT) 2025, clinching a four-wicket victory in Dubai on Tuesday, Pakistan has lost the chance to host the final of the event they were set to organize. According to the hybrid agreement established between Pakistan and the ICC, the final will now take place in Dubai, rather than at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan.
This development has led to Indian fans mocking Pakistan on social media, poking fun at the hosts for missing out on their own celebration.
Virat Kohli's impressive 84 runs, combined with KL Rahul's not-out 42 and Hardik Pandya's quick 28, propelled India to a convincing victory against Australia in the first semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy at Dubai International Stadium.
With this win, India has now qualified for the Champions Trophy final for the third consecutive time. They are set to face the winner of the second semifinal, which will be between South Africa and New Zealand, in Dubai on March 9.
India played all their matches in Dubai, having agreed prior to the tournament that they would not travel to Pakistan; therefore, if India remained in contention, the final would be held in Dubai.
"Gaddafi Stadium has been eliminated from the Champions Trophy," remarked a fan in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Pakistan was knocked out of the tournament during the league stage, following defeats to New Zealand and India in their opening matches.
"Host Pakistan can't host the Champions Trophy 2025 final in Pakistan. Thank you, Kohli, for putting Pakistan in a tough spot again," commented another fan, ridiculing Pakistan for missing the chance.
Pakistan did not secure a single victory, and three of their league matches were affected by rain, disrupting Group B matches.
"Now, the Champions Trophy 2025 final won’t be in Pakistan. A moment of silence for all Australian fans from Pakistan," another fan quipped.
Numerous fans also took jabs at Pakistan for investing PKR 1280 crore in upgrading stadiums for the grand event, only to end up with the hosts playing just one match at home, which was a 60-run loss to New Zealand, while the final group match against Bangladesh was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
"Pakistan as a nation has been knocked out twice from the Champions Trophy 2025. -No team in Final. -No stadium in Final," concluded a post on X.
