Mumbai, Jan 24 (NationPress) Following the ICC's choice to substitute Bangladesh with Scotland due to their unwillingness to host matches in India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought guidance from the government about their team's involvement in the forthcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup to show solidarity with Bangladesh.
According to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the government's approval is essential for Pakistan's participation in the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup next month. This statement comes in light of Bangladesh's removal after the International Cricket Council denied their request to shift matches from India due to security concerns, as reported by Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net).
Naqvi, who also serves as the Interior Minister of Pakistan, stated in Lahore on Saturday, "The decision on whether we will compete in the T20 World Cup rests with the government."
"Our Prime Minister (Shahbaz Sharif) is currently abroad. Once he returns, we will seek his advice. The government's verdict will be final, and if they oppose our participation, the ICC may extend an invitation to another team," he added.
Naqvi mentioned that the PCB has contingency plans in place. "We have plans A, B, and C ready to be implemented when necessary. We have navigated similar situations in the past, such as during the Champions Trophy, so we are well-prepared for these challenges," he explained.
Despite the ICC Board's decision to outvote Bangladesh's request on Wednesday, the interim government of Bangladesh has maintained its position after the Board of Control for Cricket in India expelled Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League Franchise Kolkata Knight Riders due to the geopolitical climate.
The ICC's Dispute Resolution Committee also dismissed the Bangladesh Cricket Board's appeal, replacing Bangladesh with the next-ranked team, Scotland.
Naqvi criticized the ICC for their perceived injustice towards Bangladesh, stating, "Bangladesh is a major stakeholder and has faced unfair treatment in this matter. I reiterated this point during Wednesday's meeting, and there are several factors behind their stance that I will discuss when the time is right."
Moreover, Naqvi accused the ICC of favoring India, questioning, "Why was a change in venues made for Pakistan and India but not for Bangladesh?"
