In New Delhi, on January 21 (NationPress), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly communicated with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to express its support for Bangladesh's position on not playing their matches in India during the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.
The ICC is anticipated to reach a final verdict regarding Bangladesh's participation in the 2026 men's T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the PCB has conveyed to the global cricket authority that it stands by the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) request not to compete in India given the ongoing political strife between the two nations. It was noted that the PCB has included members of the ICC Board in this correspondence.
It has emerged that a meeting took place between the ICC and the BCB on Wednesday, where each party upheld their respective positions. While the ICC emphasized the importance of following the tournament schedule, the BCB remained firm in its refusal to send its team to India.
Previously, there were reports that Pakistan threatened to withdraw from the T20 World Cup unless Bangladesh's request to relocate its matches out of India was acknowledged, prompting the PCB to advise its team to temper their preparations for the event.
Furthermore, Bangladesh has proposed to the ICC a relocation to Group B, suggesting a swap with Ireland, who is slated to play their group matches in Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, the ICC has reportedly assured Ireland that no such adjustment will take place.
The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting February 7. However, the BCB has been insistent that its league stage matches should be relocated to Sri Lanka due to security apprehensions and escalating tensions between Bangladesh and India.
