IPL 2026: Hardik Pandya Set to Return for MI's Match Against RR in Guwahati, Confirms Mhambrey
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 6 (NationPress) – The bowling coach of the Mumbai Indians (MI), Paras Mhambrey, has announced that captain Hardik Pandya will be ready for the team's upcoming IPL 2026 match against the Rajasthan Royals, scheduled to take place at ACA Stadium on Tuesday.
Pandya was absent from the last game against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, which resulted in a six-wicket loss for MI, due to health issues. However, he returned to practice at the MI nets in Guwahati on Sunday night, demonstrating excellent form in both bowling and batting.
“He will be available. He had a productive net session yesterday, so he is fit and ready to go. He wasn't injured; he was just unwell, which is why he missed the previous match,” Mhambrey stated during the pre-match press briefing.
Pandya's absence prompted MI to adjust their lineup, bringing in South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch to replace Trent Boult, while Deepak Chahar also joined the squad.
“Injuries are unpredictable. However, we have a strong team that can adapt and make strategic changes based on the pitch conditions. We have enough players to fill in and adjust our strategy,” Mhambrey added.
MI's match in Guwahati marks their first IPL game at this venue, and fans will be keen to see how RR's batters, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel, perform against star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Mhambrey emphasized Bumrah's exceptional skills, particularly his ability to outmaneuver batsmen.
“Bumrah's capacity to disguise his deliveries is remarkable. He presents a challenge that batters find hard to read. His unique approach keeps batsmen guessing,” Mhambrey explained.
“A perfect example was during the match against England. On his first ball, he surprised everyone with a slower delivery. His ability to anticipate a batsman's thought process and present unexpected options is what sets him apart,” he concluded.
