PCB Seeks Written Confirmation; Champions Trophy 2025 Decision Expected Wednesday: Sources

New Delhi, Dec 9 (NationPress) In light of the persistent deadlock regarding Pakistan's role as the host for the Champions Trophy 2025, it is anticipated that the International Cricket Council (ICC) will unveil its decision on the prestigious event this coming Wednesday, according to sources from IANS on Monday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which possesses the rights to host the Champions Trophy, has allegedly requested a written confirmation from the international authority concerning the hybrid model for upcoming ICC tournaments. This follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informing the ICC that the Indian team will refrain from traveling to Pakistan, adhering to the policy set forth by the Government of India.

In the midst of this standoff, the PCB has consented to the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, which allows India to play its matches in Dubai, while the remainder of the tournament will take place in Pakistan. Additionally, India is set to participate in the semifinal and final matches in Dubai, contingent upon their qualification.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking a written assurance from the world governing body (ICC) regarding a hybrid model for future international events hosted by India. The decision regarding the Champions Trophy is expected by Wednesday,” sources relayed to IANS.

Meanwhile, the Emirates Cricket Board is closely monitoring the ICC’s forthcoming decision on the Champions Trophy. Reports indicate that Dubai is virtually assured to host the matches involving India.

Prior to achieving any agreement on this issue, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday, as the chairman has repeatedly indicated that the board would consult with the government before finalizing any arrangements.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to occur from February 19 to March 9. However, the event has encountered uncertainty following the BCCI's announcement that it lacks the Indian government’s approval for travel to Pakistan. The tournament will involve eight teams, split into two groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals, leading to the final.

Last year, Pakistan executed the Men’s 50-over Asia Cup utilizing a hybrid model after India declined to visit the country. India conducted all their matches in Colombo, including the semifinal and final, both of which they won.
