New Delhi, June 5 (NationPress) Opener Phil Salt will be absent from England's forthcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) granted him paternity leave, as announced on Thursday.

The ECB confirmed that wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith will step in for Salt in the squad. The ECB elaborated, "Salt, who is taking time off for paternity leave following the birth of his child earlier this week, will now be spending time at home."

Salt had returned home for the birth of his child after delivering a match-winning performance of 56 not out from 27 balls in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory over Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025 in New Chandigarh.

He arrived in Ahmedabad at 3 am on Tuesday morning in preparation for the title clash against Punjab Kings, which RCB won by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, marking their first IPL title. Although Salt scored only 16 runs in the final, his relay catch to dismiss Priyansh Arya helped set the stage for RCB's long-awaited championship victory.

Throughout the IPL 2025 season, Salt has been a key player for RCB, accumulating 403 runs across 13 matches, with an average of 33.58 and a strike rate of 175.98. He also achieved four half-centuries while hitting 48 fours and 22 sixes. Previously, Salt was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team that clinched the IPL 2024 title.

The T20I series between England and the West Indies will kick off at the Riverside Ground in Durham on Friday evening, followed by additional matches in Bristol and Southampton on June 8 and 10, respectively.

England’s T20I squad includes: Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Jamie Smith, and Luke Wood
