New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) England's opener Phil Salt expressed that his collaboration with Virat Kohli resonated from their initial interaction at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru camp during IPL 2025. He highlighted the significance of their evolving partnership, particularly emphasizing the clarity in their roles regarding scoring responsibilities.

Salt's synergy with Kohli provided RCB with numerous strong starts in the powerplay, an essential factor in their success at IPL 2025. "Building a solid relationship with your opening partner is crucial," he stated. "Understanding each other’s gameplay is vital for maximizing performance."

"From day one, we began nurturing that connection, and I'm very satisfied with its progress. It’s often a silent communication that occurs on the field; you can just feel how your partner is performing. For instance, in Jaipur, we didn’t need to talk much; it was clear that Virat was comfortable rotating the strike to me whenever he was on strike."

"On days like the one in Delhi, either of us could have taken the lead. Both of us were performing well, and it just so happened that I took the initiative at the start of the third over. It’s a dynamic process that sometimes requires discussion and sometimes unfolds naturally," Salt explained during an episode of the RCB podcast released on Monday.

When asked about his initial feelings after being acquired by RCB at the IPL 2025 auction, Salt, who previously clinched the trophy in 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders, remarked, "My immediate thought was that this team suited my playing style perfectly. The way RCB has always presented themselves and their brand of cricket resonated with me."

"From my very first conversation with Mo post-auction, it was evident why they sought me and what specific role they envisioned for me. Everything aligned seamlessly with my gameplay."

As a key figure in England’s T20I squad, Salt elaborated on the necessity of maintaining high standards and strike rates while opening in the T20 format. "Cricket today demands a more aggressive approach. Is it the most consistent strategy? Probably not," he acknowledged.

"There was a period when players aimed for the orange cap, but that mindset is less effective in the IPL now. My focus, along with most of our batting lineup, is on team success over individual accolades. That’s what truly matters in the IPL."

"I prioritize daily processes and incremental progress. I concentrate on the fundamentals—hitting the gym, maintaining my physical condition, and making sound decisions. Big goals can cloud your judgment, a lesson I learned the hard way in my earlier career. Now, it’s all about small, consistent steps rather than fixating on outcomes," he concluded.
