Gurugram, Jan 19 (NationPress) National-level athletes have commenced intensive training ahead of the much-anticipated Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL), which will feature competitors from nations such as Egypt, Kenya, Argentina, Taiwan, and Poland.
As the players' draft draws near, both male and female competitors are ramping up their preparations for the League. Notable players including Sawin Narwal, Sandeep Kandola, Ajay Kumar, and Kapil Narwal are committed to optimizing their training.
National gold medalists such as M Anitha, Indra Rohini, Arul Santhiya, and Selvarebiksha have also begun their practice sessions in their respective states.
Sawin Narwal, a rifleman in the Indian Army currently based in Ranchi, is refining his Kabaddi techniques within his battalion. Having participated in several Kabaddi leagues, Sawin, a national-level contender, is eager to compete in GI-PKL.
"The training for the Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League is progressing exceptionally well. I am also looking forward to engaging in friendly Kabaddi matches organized within the campus. I am genuinely excited for GI-PKL," remarked Sawin Narwal.
In a similar vein, Kapil Narwal shared, "I am very thrilled to be part of GI-PKL. My prior experience with international players has been rewarding, and I'm keen to showcase my best performance on the mat once more."
M. Anitha conveyed her enthusiasm, stating, "I am excited to partake in the GI-PKL. Sharing the locker room with international players offers a fantastic learning opportunity and a chance to grasp different playing styles."
Arul Santhiya expressed her excitement, mentioning, "It’s a remarkable feeling to be part of a league that brings together players from all over the world. I am eager to exchange strategies and gain insights from international competitors. This experience is sure to elevate my game."
Regarding the players' enthusiasm and participation, Kanthi D. Suresh, president of the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), commented, "The buzz surrounding GI-PKL underscores the growing popularity of Kabaddi and the ability of sports to bridge cultures and dismantle barriers. The enthusiastic response from both global and domestic players affirms our aim to establish an inclusive and vibrant platform for Kabaddi."
The inaugural season of GI-PKL will showcase 12 teams—six for women and six for men—each representing the diverse cultural and linguistic heritage of India. The teams have been thoughtfully named to reflect their regional identities:
Women’s Teams: Marathi Falcons, Bhojpuri Leopardess, Telugu Cheetahs, Tamil Lioness, Punjabi Tigress, and Haryanvi Eagles.
Men’s Teams: Marathi Vultures, Bhojpuri Leopards, Telugu Panthers, Tamil Lions, Punjabi Tigers, and Haryanvi Sharks.
Each franchise will feature both a men’s and women’s team, a pioneering approach in Kabaddi that promotes equality and inclusivity.
