New Delhi, July 22 (NationPress) Gujarat has experienced a remarkable registration of 37,56,390 new Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) over the past five years, as reported by Union Minister of State for MSMEs, Shobha Karandlaje, during a session in Parliament.

In her written response to the Rajya Sabha, Karandlaje mentioned that within the same timeframe, 8,779 MSMEs have ceased operations in the state.

According to data from the Udyam Registration Portal, a total of 8,779 MSMEs have closed in Gujarat, while 2,892 have shut down in Andhra Pradesh from 01.07.2020 to 15.07.2025. During this period, the new registrations of MSMEs in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh stand at 37,56,390 and 33,78,109, respectively,” stated the Union Minister.

She also emphasized various initiatives undertaken by the government to bolster the MSME sector across the nation.

Additionally, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi informed the Rajya Sabha that more than 34 crore individuals have found employment through MSMEs since 2014, facilitated by the Udyam and Udyam Assist portals.

In response to inquiries in the Upper House, the Minister of MSMEs clarified that there is no deficit of funds or workforce in the sector. He provided examples of traditional artisans, such as cobblers, who have benefited from financial assistance under schemes like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana.

The total number of MSMEs in India has surpassed 6 crore, the minister added, noting that funding to the sector has escalated from Rs 12 lakh crore a decade ago to approximately Rs 30 lakh crore.

In his Budget address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the guarantee coverage for MSME loans would be increased to Rs 20 crore. Furthermore, the government is set to introduce customized credit cards with a limit of Rs 5 lakh to address working capital needs.
